Bali
Lazy Bali Beach Days

Bali the “Island of the Gods.” The mere mention of Bali brings images of bronzed surfers, beautiful sunsets, an endless stream of Bintang, and more shades of green than box of Crayola markers. You only get 30 days with a visa on arrival. Which for me was not nearly enough. I plan to return to Indonesia to explore more of the islands and to one day make my way to Komodo to see the dragons. The smile of the Balinese is contagious.

I spent a total of 30 days there and my total cost was $957.66 USD.  Average Daily Spending = $31.92 USD.

The Breakdown is as Follows (USD):

Lodging:  $238.14 / Daily Average $7.94

Food: $205.69 / Daily Average $6.86

Cocktails: $68.54 / Daily Average $2.28

Entertainment:  $5.88 / Daily Average $0.20

Activities (temples, clairvoyant, scuba, massage): $134.89 / Daily Average $4.50

Transportation (ferries, taxi):   $225.56 / Daily Average $7.52

Clothing:   $23.52 / Daily Average $0.78

Gear (cell phone):  $9,94 / Daily Average $0.33

Misc (beach umbrella rental & Incense): $2.59  / Daily Average $0.09

Visas & Exit Tax: $42.92 / Daily Average $1.43

How could I have done if for less?

The one major way I could have saved money in Bali was if I wasn’t terrified of driving a scooter. It is the main way of getting around the island. Unfortunately due to my fear I had to take more cans than was necessary. This added up quickly but the traffic in Bali is no joke so if you aren’t comfortable riding a bike than I don’t suggest it as a place to learn. Instead wait for the quite mountain roads of places like Pai, Thailand to hone your skills.
